In the week that I have spent at UCC’s school of BEES I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. I found the course incredibly interesting especially the zoology section.
On the first day we were given an introduction to the School of BEES from Professor John O’ Halloran. After which we had two lectures: one on geology and the other on fossils of Trilobites.
On Tuesday we did a bird ringing practical and in my honest opinion I would say that it takes somebody with more patience than me to enjoy the job!
Later we were given a lecture by Dr. Barbara Doyle-Prestwich who had just returned from field research on plants and crops in South America. On Wednesday we were given two tours in the area of UCC one in the Boole Library and the other of the sights to see within the campus.
On Thursday we had a competition to make posters and research the disciplines in the School of BEES. My group did the zoology poster – we didn’t win though. We also got a tour of the EUREKA Centre in the afternoon.
All in all I have found this UCC TY event very interesting and I will be sad to leave it behind for my normal school life!
